Thanksgiving Trader Joe's Haul

This past weekend, I headed to Trader Joe's in Capitol Hill to stock up for our Thanksgiving meal. One of my favorite things about Trader Joe's is their focus on high-quality and affordable prepared/frozen foods and seasonal products. This time of year, the store is full of seasonal treats and drinks which we love to try. This week, we focused on traditional Thanksgiving staples, turkey, potatoes, green beans, and cranberries, but will be using lots of fresh herbs and citrus fruits to brighten our dishes. The photos below show some of the haul ingredients:

Check out what we've got for the week down below; I've included prices for each category for reference. Stay tuned for simple summer recipes using these delicious finds in the following posts as well as my "What I eat in a Wednesday" series in my instagram stories. We love trying new products from Trader Joes - be sure to share your favorites and must-try items in the comment section below.

Produce & Plants

This week, we stocked up on some fruits and vegetables from the produce aisle for our Thanksgiving sides. We also stocked up on herbs and citrus fruits to season our turkey and side dishes. We are not huge pumpkin pie fans, so we'll be using some of our cranberries to make a citrus and cranberry tart. Our produce this week included:

  • Fresh poultry herb blend (sage, rosemary, thyme)

  • Lemons

  • Mandarin oranges

  • Cranberries

  • Golden potatoes

  • Haricots verts (thin green beans)

  • Onions

Total Cost: $18.42

Protein & Packaged Goods

When it comes to protein, we eat everything - plant based proteins, chicken, seafood, eggs/dairy, and red meat. For Thanksgiving, we'll be doing a turkey breast but I also picked up some pancetta to sauté with the green beans. Our other packaged goods included lots of delicious seasonal drinks and pie crusts for our Thanksgiving dessert. The vast majority of our budget this week went to:

  • Split bone-in turkey breast

  • Cubed pancetta

  • Holiday winter wake-up tea

  • Organic peppermint tea

  • Unsweetened almond milk

  • Health Aid pink lady apple kombucha

  • Pie crusts (frozen)

  • Soft strawberry licorice

Total Cost: $30.44
