Today is a big milestone for the Pierogi and Springroll Blog: our 50th post!
In celebration of the growth of our blog and community, we're starting a new series: Seattle Restaurant Bingo. This bingo card was developed by Curiocity Seattle as a way to get folks out into the community to support our amazing local restaurants, whether that is take out, to-go, dine in, or dine out. To kick things off, we had a date night in Capitol Hill, one of the Seattle neighborhoods with the most concentration of bars and restaurants. We visited two places that night:
Ba Bar: Personal Fave
Cupcake Royale: Dessert
Check out the photo gallery and read more below about everything we got on our date night out.
Learn more about each of the restaurants and dishes we tried throughout the evening down below; I've included addresses, websites, and prices for reference. Both places have great prices (note food was for two). Stay tuned for more great Seattle spots in the coming months as we explore our city and fill in our bingo board!
If you have been following the blog or our instagram account, you know that Ba Bar is one of our favorite happy hour spots or place for a delicious Vietnamese dinner and drinks. In summer 2020, the owners converted a portion of their loading dock into an outdoor dining patio with umbrellas/rain canopies, planter barricades, heat lamps for cooler evenings, and, of course, well-spaced dining tables. They had the space beautifully decorated for Lunar New Year when we were there as well. The restaurant has three locations focusing on innovative street food: Capitol Hill, UVillage and South Lake Union (temporarily closed). We enjoyed perfectly balanced Nguyen Dynasty cocktails, crispy imperial roles, tangy fish sauce caramel wings, and flakey, flavorful lemongrass rockfish entrée. Ba Bar has a great happy hour menu (with food and drink specials) and their patio can fill up quickly, especially on nice days, so be sure to get there early!
Address: 550 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122
Total Cost: $57
After our delicious appetizers, cocktails, and dinner at Ba Bar, we walked into the Pike-Pine corridor of Capitol Hill in search of a sweet treat. We headed to Cupcake Royale to grab a few cupcakes and enjoy the patio at Chophouse Row. Chophouse Row is a collection of restaurants, cafes, and shops between 11th and 12th Avenues and Pike and Pine streets in the Capitol Hill area. In order to promote safe dining, the central courtyard has been upgraded to include tents, heating lamps, a fire pit, and plenty of chairs and tables to enjoy takeout from the various businesses in the area. We decided on cupcakes because we were too cold to eat ice cream outside and were glad we did. Cupcake Royale's cupcakes are dense, rich, and full of flavor - often unique combinations. We tried chocolate caramel with ganache and vanilla champagne. Cupcake Royale also has a full coffee and tea bar as well as ice cream if you're looking for a full, decadent experience.
Address: 1111 E Pike St, Seattle, WA 98144
Total Cost: $8 ($4 per cupcake)
