Orange County Food Tour

Hello from Pierogi and Springroll Orange County edition! As you've seen in our November newsletter, we have been traveling along the west coast to visit family and work remotely during the holiday season. We spent a few days in Orange County, California with family and enjoyed the local food and drinks in the area. California has currently banned indoor dining so the food and drinks below all reflect the outdoor dining, to-go, and drive through options we tried. Remember to practice social distancing, wash hands, and wear a mask, even when enjoying these outdoor dining options. Scroll to the bottom of the post for pictures of these delicious treats!

Shrimp & Grits

If you are looking for a great brunch option, check out Snooze in Old Town Orange. We shared the shrimp and grits and pineapple upside down pancake. Both were rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. The portions are huge so come hungry or share a dish. They also offer a variety of brunch cocktails for those interested in a twist on the classic mimosa or bloody mary. Snooze is currently offering outdoor dining along their storefront or to-go.

Beef, Chicken, Shrimp & Tofu Pho

This huge bowl of pho was from Pho 101 in Westminster and, if you can believe it, was a medium size. Their menu is exciting in that you can choose four protein ingredients from a long list including rare beef, brisket, tendon, meatballs, chicken, shrimp, tofu, and more. This hearty bowl of soup was flavorful, rich, and well balanced. We paired our soup with Thai Iced Tea and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Pho 101 is currently offering extensive outdoor seating in two different patio areas and to-go.

Carne Asada Fries

Nothing beats the flavor of carne asada slathered over french fries with cheese, guacamole, fried jalapenos, and fresh salsa. These carne asada fries from Sobrasada in Westminster were the perfect afternoon treat. They are offering to-go and drive through options at this time.

Snacks: Skewers, Musubi, Paletas

We took advantage of snacks and treats as a way to try more foods and vendors, without over eating. We had:

  • Skewers: These shrimp, steak, and pork belly skewers from RTE (ready to eat) at Rodeo 39 were the perfect afternoon snack. All three meats were juicy, flavorful, and great for sharing with family. In addition to a variety of meats and seafoods, RTE also sells vegetable skewers. Their outdoor dining area is great for a quick lunch or happy hour in Stanton.

  • Musubi: Tenori at Rodeo 39 serves up delicious and adorable muisubi bites in all different flavors. We tried korean bbq and pork belly varieties. In addition to their location within Rodeo 39, Tenori has another location in Chino.

  • Paletas: This fresh kiwi and strawberry paleta from Michoacana Gourmet was refreshing and flavorful and made with fresh fruit puree. In addition to dozens of paletas and ice cream flavors, this Anaheim spot serves up elotes, sundaes, mangonadas, churros and more.

Drinks: Horchata Latte, Sunset Passion Tea, Watermelon Basil Hard Selzer

In addition to meals and snacks, we enjoyed some tasty beverages during our time in Orange County. We had:

  • Horchata Latte: This creamy, rich, iced latte was perfect for strolling through Old Town Orange. The City of Orange has closed off many streets in the area which allow for outdoor seating and social distancing, all with a delicious coffee in hand. Pandor Bakery and Café is offering to-go and outdoor seating in their massive sidewalk patio.

  • Sunset Passion Tea: Whenever we visit Southern California, we stop at 7 Leaves for some of their delicious fresh fruit teas. This time, we enjoyed the Sunset Passion Tea which is packed with fresh orange, passion fruit and citrus.

  • Watermelon Basil Hard Selzer: This tasty hard seltzer from Bearded Tang Brewery at Rodeo 39 is fresh, crisp, and well balanced. The outdoor dining options make this the perfect happy hour spot in Stanton.
