New Year's Imperfect Haul

Happy New Year from Pierogi and Springroll! After the exhausting 2020, the chaotic and horrifying start to 2021, and spending the holidays driving back to Seattle, we are ready to get healthy at home. In order to limit our trips out, we ordered this week's groceries online. Imperfect Foods is a great option when we're looking to save money, have groceries delivered, and create a meal plan centered on healthy fruits and vegetables.

One of my favorite things about Imperfect Foods is their focus on high-quality, organic, and affordable produce and prepared products. Many of their items have been rejected by major grocery retailers for being too small, oddly shaped, discolored, incorrect packaging, damaged (pieces of nuts, fish, etc), or surplus. Because traditional grocery stores wont buy these items, Imperfect Foods will sell them direct to consumer at a discounted price and deliver them straight to your door. In other words, you can score an entire box full of delicious, fresh, healthy produce and packaged items for a great deal without even having to leave your couch. If you're interested in trying out Imperfect Foods, you can use my discount code for $25 off your first order - on top of the item savings!

Check out what we've got for the week down below. I've included prices for reference - Imperfect Foods estimates that I saved $14.47 this week over conventional store prices plus I received free delivery. Stay tuned for recipes using these delicious Imperfect Foods finds in the following posts and 'Recipes' section below.

We got so many produce items this week that I separated them out into two categories photos: greens and fruits and vegetables. This week we got:

  • Green Leaf Lettuce

  • Kale

  • Cucumbers

  • Green Onions

  • Cilantro

  • Zuccini

  • Avocado

  • Onions

  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Red Bell Peppers

  • Grape Tomatoes

  • Blueberries

  • Apples

  • Lemons

Total Cost: $22.44

When it comes to protein, we eat everything - plant based proteins, chicken, seafood, eggs/dairy, and red meat. We try to focus on lean proteins and mix up our options throughout the week for our health and the environment. This week we got:

  • Roasted Deli Turkey

  • Spinach and Feta Chicken Sausage

  • Free Range Eggs

  • Broken Shimp Pieces (half the price compared to whole, on-spec shrimp!)

  • Hummus

  • Tukey Burgers with Uncured Bacon

  • Oat Milk (not pictured)

Total Cost: $36.33

Canned & Packaged Goods

Despite being a produce-forward company, Imperfect Foods also offers great packaged goods, breads, and pantry items. This week we got:

  • Blue Corn Tortilla Chips

  • Tumeric Sweet Potato Wraps

  • Kale Garden Wraps

  • Brioch Buns

  • Coconut Milk (not pictured)

  • Thai Red Curry Paste (not pictured)

Total Cost: $17.14

We will be using these ingredients to make a veggie wraps, omelets with chicken sausage, curry shrimp, and burgers with sweet potato fires. We stocked up on fruit for oatmeal and greens for smoothies for breakfast - we always keep quick oats on hand for simple breakfasts and baking so no need to purchas this week. I am so excited to try the turkey and bacon burgers and corn chips for cheaper and healthier, weekend meal at home.
