June Trader Joe's Haul

This past weekend, I headed to Trader Joe's in Capitol Hill to try out some new recipes and stock up on some of our favorite frozen foods and snacks. One of my favorite things about Trader Joe's is their focus on high-quality and affordable prepared/frozen foods and seasonal products. Their store is full of delicious, rotating ingredients that make weeknight dinners simple and delicious - especially if you are busy and have just a few minutes to pull together lunch and dinner. This week, we focused on healthy proteins and snacks as well as some fresh veggies to create balanced salads for lunches and dinners. The photos below show some of the haul ingredients and how we used them: a refreshing wedge salad, tropical fruit smoothies, and a cold soba noodle salad. All three recipes were super simple and perfect for warm summer days.

Produce & Plants

This week, we stocked up on some fruits and vegetables from the produce aisle and the frozen for morning smoothies and vegetables in salads. Trader Joe's has awesome fruits, vegetables, and drinks to stay healthy. This week we got a great mix of fresh and frozen items:

  • Organic apple sauce

  • Frozen mango

  • Frozen pineapple

  • Frozen organic cauliflower rice

  • Cole slaw mix (shredded red and green cabbage and carrots)

  • Iceberg lettuce

  • Roma tomatoes

  • English cucumbers

  • Bananas

  • Garlic powder

  • Guava kombucha

Total Cost: $20.73

Protein & Packaged Goods

When it comes to protein, we eat everything - plant based proteins, chicken, seafood, eggs/dairy, and red meat. We also try to mix up our snack and packaged options throughout the week for our health and the environment. This week, we are going to enjoy lots of different protein options to pair with all our salads and produce. We also have a mix of healthy snacks to stay satisfied throughout the day. The Trader Joe's chicken sausage is always a staple at our house for a quick dinner or to have with eggs for a weekend brunch. The vast majority of our budget this week went to:

  • Parmesan cheese

  • Organic pea protein powder (for smoothies)

  • Tofu (firm and soft)

  • Garlic peppercorn pork tenderloin

  • Shawarma style chicken thighs

  • Uncured bacon

  • Andouille chicken sausage

  • Jalapeno chicken sausage

  • "Everything but the Bagel" almonds and cashews

  • Garlic pistachios

  • RX Bars

  • Mini cheese sandwich crackers

  • Emergen-C packets

Total Cost: $83.37
