5 Must-Try Cranberry Recipes
Happy November from Pierogi and Springroll! To kick off this month and the start of the holiday season, we're sharing five must-try cranberry recipes from some of our favorite food blogs. All of these recipes can be made with fresh cranberries - though in many cases frozen or dried cranberries work too! If you saw my Uwajimaya Haul, you'll know that I was able to snag some fresh cranberries which will be featured in recipes coming to the blog soon. Stay tuned for cozy recipes and adventures along the West Coast all month long.
1. Cranberry Jalapeno Dip | Snacking in Sneakers
I first had this cranberry and jalapeno dip at a Thanksgiving holiday party a few years ago and it has now become my favorite cranberry recipe. Before you jump straight to the desserts and cocktails below, give this one a chance! The dip includes tart fresh cranberries paired with lime, green onions, jalapeno, cilantro and cream cheese which makes a balanced, tangy appetizer or snack this holiday season. Snacking in Sneakers' version of the recipe is healthy - cutting sugar in half and suggesting lower fat cream cheese alternatives compared to similar recipes.
2. Cranberry Pear Ginger Fizz | Britt + Co
Even if bars are closed or your annual holiday party has been put on hold, you can still enjoy a delicious and seasonal cocktail. This cranberry pear ginger fizz from Britt + Co combines some of my favorite ingredients and includes a perfect balance of sweet, tart, spicy, and fizzy. Rosemary always reminds me of pine - both in flavor and leaf structure - so the garnish is a perfect nod to Christmas trees. The pale pink color from muddling pear and cranberry and fresh garnish is absolutely beautiful - even if you're enjoying it at home or over a virtual happy hour.
3. Kale Salad with Cranberries and Cheddar | foodiecrush
I love using cranberries in savory-sweet recipes. They provide the perfect bright contrast to rich and savory foods like cheeses, nuts, and vinaigrette dressings. This kale salad from foodiecrush combines bitter greens, tart cranberries, rich cheese, sweet apples, spicy shallots, and crunchy walnuts and sunflower seeds. It would be great for a holiday event or even meal prep as kale keeps for days, even dressed. Another bonus of this salad: all the ingredients are seasonal so you'll be sure to save a little money at the supermarket.
4. Cranberry Bread | A Side of Sweet
Cranberry bread is the ideal dessert, breakfast, snack, or treat throughout the holiday season. This recipe from A Side of Sweet pairs fresh orange juice and zest, buttermilk, and lots of fresh cranberries. It is moist, rich, sweet, and citrusy. It can also be made using a muffin tin or Bundt pan if you prefer self contained portions or a decorative cake to the traditional bread loaf. While there are lots of cranberry bread recipes, the buttermilk and fresh orange zest in this version make it super flavorful and moist - not too dry or dense.
5. Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Cranberries | Sweet Simple Vegan
To round out the list of cranberry recipes, I have one more savory and seasonal dish to recommend: Sweet Simple Vegan's roasted brussels sprouts with orange maple glaze and thyme roasted cranberries. The ingredients for this recipe scream holiday season - all while feeling healthy and guilt free. Their recipe is vegan, gluten free, refined sugar free, oil free, and low sodium. It combines all the flavors of the season without any of the ingredients that weigh us down.
